Korean Conflict
In 1945 Korea split at the 38th parallel line. Till the end of World War I in 1945 Japan occupied Korea. In the north of Korea it was occupied by the Soviet Union and the South was controlled by the United States. In 1950 North Korea attacked South Korea starting the Korean War. Not until 1953 was it when they signed a treaty to just split the two nations apart on the 38th parallel. North Korea was part of the Soviet Union and was an Industrial nation meaning that it is developed and is advancing. South Korea was in alliance with United States and was an agricultural nation meaning that it Is still old fashioned going with traditional ways of life.
On July 35th, 1950 the Cold War was suddenly turing hot with the Soviet Union aiding North Korea as they make many attacks on South Korea. The Soviet Union was not actually in the war with the North Koreans but it what they did was provide supplies and artillery for the many attacks. Some Soviets did join the Korean Army to help fight the anti-communism South Korea. The United States aids the South Koreans.
The North Koreans continued to advance and by September 1950 they controlled the entire Korean peninsula. That same month McArthur launched a surprised attack on the not controlled area around Pusan. The met up with the North Koreans at Inchon and called the “pincer action” this is how the Koreans were caught and most of them surrendered. The tide of the war changed when the U.S troops threatening the North Korean army that just retreated. The U.S troops pushed the North Koreans to the Yalu river at the Chinese boarder. At the time China felt threatened by the many American troops so they sent in 300,000 troops to help North Korea which then they pushed out the UN and South Korean troops with them.
Three major battles of the Korean Conflict were the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter which was a line around the South Korea, Pusan. The army of of 140,000 troops from the UN got pushed back to the point of defeat against invading the less powerful North Korean army. The Battle of Inchon this was the United States troops idea to push back the North Koreans from invading South Korea. The United States succeed at this, the Soviet Union had no involvement in this battle. The Battle of Bloody Ridge took place on September 5, 1951 and was a ground combat battle. It was fought in mountainous range at the 38th parallel between the communist North Korean and the United Nations. This was fought because there was peace negotiations going on and the United Nations wanted to have control of the mountainous regions.
In July of 1953 after a couple of years between fighting of the North and South Koreans the UN forces and North Korea sign a cease-fire agreement. Where they would have a border of the 38th parallel almost like the one before the war. In North Korea today it is run by a Communism dictatorship. The young children are all brainwashed that they have to worship the leader, and cannot speak or voice their own opinion. There is absolutely no contact with the outside world. All the government has control of what the people learn, and how they work and there is no class ladder. In South Korean it is run by a democratic republic. This is where people get to elect representatives, using the vote on legislation. The type of government was based on what it is like in the United States. More freedom than that of North Korea.
