Cuban Missile Crisis
Fidel Castro led a revolution in Cuba to overthrow Fulgencio Bastia. At first the U.S. was treating Castro showing him around the U.S. as a friend. But Castro turned Cuba into a communist nation which really upset the United States. The U.S. Was already fighting in the Cold War with the Soviet Union and the U.S goal was to stop the spread of Communism.
The dispute between the United States and Cuba was over the sugar fields this lead to Castro turing to the Soviet Union for help. This both angered and feared the U.S. The U.S is just 90 miles south of the U.S and so they have a plan of attack. The U.S also was in fear that with the Soviets help the U.S could look like the weaker one.
The Bay of Pigs was an unsuccessful attempt on the United States part to over throw Fidel Castro and the government. Was under the command of Eisenhower and approved by the new President John F. Kennedy. The outcome is a minus for the United States. When the U.S. Weapons landed on the southern coast of Cuba they had hoped to have the support of the people who also opposed the government. President Kennedy had the option of calling in the U.S. Air Force but knew it was a battle to lose so Kennedy did not go through with the plan. From this failure many people blamed Kennedy that it was his fault for not helping the exiles. Castro insured fear in the U.S. If they were to invade Cuba again.
In July 1962 Nikita Khrushchev planned in the idea of placing missiles in Cuba. This would double the chance of attack on the United States with the help of the Soviet Union and Cuba working together. The United States found out about this was that they sent in illegally a spy place and it took images of the missiles and launcher on Cuba. The U.S. Already knew of Soviet ships on their way to Cuba.
President JFK had a couple options to the response to the discovery of missiles in Cuba. First was to attack with guns and ablaze into Cuba which then would lead to another world war. They also had the option of to negotiate something because they know of launchers being made. If the Soviet go ahead with the missiles they would break the blockade and they portrayed as the bigger one if the Soviets do not break the blockade they are view as the weaker ones.
The world feared World War 3 would come it was on the brink of nuclear war. The resolution that President JFK and Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev was that the Soviets and the Cubans would get rid of the launcher pointed toward the United States. The United States agreed to promise to leave Cuba alone. The U.S. Had to remove missile that were secretly in Turkey. This agreement was kept secret because the United States did not want the world to know that they were weak in giving in to this agreement.
